  • “The world is wide open to dialogue with every human being, with every territory, culture, age, and even geological era. I think the label “artist” is a sort of universal key that magically opens every door.”
    —Adrián Villar Rojas

A central image of the artist’s Lo que el fuego me trajo (What fire has brought me) series, Angel is in the artist’s signature style of combining found objects with sculpture. The work was first exhibited at the Ruth Benzacar Gallery, Buenos Aires in 2008, alongside other sculptures from the series set in a decaying cityscape. The combined elements of fragmented brick along with sculptures placed around the scene are reminiscent of an archaeological dig site: human-like figures, objects and debris blur together in one, large set.i

“Clay enabled me to build fossils. I could fossilize whatever I wanted, and thus I could work with time. I could fictionalize the passing of time by representing its effects on matter.”
    —Adrián Villar Rojas
