The starting point of Ortega’s work is theoretical and literary allusions that, at the same time, function as references for understanding the visual and material displacements in his work. His practice is multifaceted, as it frequently transcends the individual artistic practice. Among his best known collaborations are Temístocles 44 and his editorial projects such as Casper, which is a publication that demonstrates the source of references that set apart the artists of his generation.

Ortega has sustained a serious investigation of video as a tool to document actions in public spaces, and later, exploring the language of the medium, which affects the duration of the image on the basis of spatial strategies. Some of the leit motifs of his work emerge from his interest in trajectory as a practice, which provokes the analysis of the landscape’s sculptural condition, of silence and the vacuum as the means that lead us to restate the contemporary subject.

Luis Felipe Ortega has exhibited at an International level and in Mexico. In 2015, Ortega represented Mexico in the 56th Venice Biennale. Other significant exhibitions include Punk, sus rastros en el arte contemporáneo (Punk, its Footprints in Contemporary Art), at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, Antes de la Resaca (Before the Hangover) at the University Museum of Chopo/Mexico (2016); Una fracción de los noventa (A Fraction of the Nineties) now in the permanent collection of the University Museum of Contemporary Art, Mexico (2011); La era de la discrepancia (The era of discrepancies) at the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), Argentina, that later traveled to the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil (2008).
