Catalogue Essay
The present steel Tri-Compax is one of the best looking and best preserved examples the market has seen in many years. Made in 1968 and still accompanied by its original Gay Frères steel bracelet stamped 2/68, it also comes with its original box and blank guarantee. No one could be blamed for mistaking this Tri-Compax from a few feet away with a Rolex Daytona reference 6241 Paul Newman. However, this Universal features a complete calendar and phases of the moon, a complication that the celebrated Cosmograph never offered. The main dial plate, finished in blue metallic, is an incredible work of art and is framed by a raised ring featuring a blue scale calibrated for the 5th of a second.Preserved in overall original condition, this Tri-Compax offers excellent value and is much rarer than any of its more famous contemporaries from Geneva.
