Catalogue Essay
The present lot is set with a marquise-cut diamonds with a distinct oval softness to its curves evoking a cut often described as 'moval', a cross between marquise and oval. The moval-cut diamond was popular in early 20th century jewellery and was thought of as particularly complimentary in its apparent elongation of the finger of the wearer. The present diamond displays the scintillating brilliance and elegant charm of an early example of this cut of diamond. Its high D colour also intensifies its effect. This ring reputedly belonged to Betty's mother, Rea Warner.
