Catalogue Essay
Sautoirs were very popular during the Edwardian and Belle Époque with the most valuable examples consisting of woven strands of seed pearls or diamonds terminating with diamond-set pendants or tassels of fine millegrain and wirework. These pendants were often influenced by the naturalistic decorations of the period and included garland ribbon and floral motifs. The present lot is in fine condition and is a rare surviving example of an original design. Many pieces were broken up over time into bracelets and chokers. The fact that this sautoir is accompanied by its original fitted case only adds to its appeal as an original piece.
