Phillips' Design department offers exceptional examples of 20th and 21st century design including both functional furniture and conceptual works. We are a dominant global force, unified by an acute understanding of the market and international collecting trends. Our expertise includes European Modernism and Art Deco, French, Italian and Nordic Design, International and American Aesthetic Movement and Arts and Crafts, American Modernism and Studio Craft, contemporary design, architecture, glass and ceramics.

Phillips conducts seasonal Design sales in New York, London and Hong Kong. Expertly presented and thoughtfully curated, our auctions bring together sought-after works by masters such as Carlo Mollino, Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, Jean-Michel Frank, Charlotte Perriand, Finn Juhl and Shiro Kuramata.

We have achieved world record prices at auction for Lucie Rie, Jean Royère, Isamu Noguchi, Poul Henningsen and Marcel Coard as well as celebrated contemporary designers Marc Newson and Joris Laarman.

Our team seamlessly works together to expand our global, and continually growing, client base. In 2016, we welcomed new buyers from around the world, including North and South America, Europe, Asia, Russia and the Middle East.

    Phillips and The Line are pleased to announce a four-day public exhibition of works from the upcoming auctions of Design, Watches, and 20th Century & Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Open from 10-13 April, highlights from the tour include an untitled work by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, and Wayne Thiebaud, and an impressive selection of ceramics by Lucie Rie. Beginning on 11 April, the exhibition will also include 44 lots from the upcoming Watches auctions in Geneva – Daytona Ultimatum and Geneva Watch Auction: SEVEN.

    Phillips is pleased to offer works by the most respected designers from the past century, including Alberto Giacometti, Diego Giacometti, François-Xavier Lalanne, Jean-Michel Frank, Gio Ponti and Wendell Castle, among others in its first Design auction of 2018. A group of works by Ettore Sottsass are included in the sale, as well as ceramics by Hans Coper and Lucie Rie. Comprised of 171 lots, Important Design will take place on 26 April at Phillips London. As part of a unique collaborative project between Phillips and ARTinD, eight leading international architects have designed a silk carpet, taking inspiration from the Golden Section. The eight unique carpets will be exhibited during the Important Design preview, and sold online between 19 – 29 April.
