In this first of a series of informal Jewels talks, jewelry historian and founder of Viviarium, Vivienne Becker, in lockdown in London, ‘meets’ Italian designer-jeweler Fabio Salini, quarantined in Rome. Together they had co-curated a selling exhibition, Fabio Salini – The New Modernist Jewel, previously scheduled to take place at Phillips New York in March and now postponed to the fall. Here, Vivienne speaks with him about the 20 years since he launched his own collection and how he has spent that time exploring materials, concepts and technical innovation, in order to build and refine a new language of modernism in jewels.
