In a city that famously flaunts luxury on every corner, The Lavish Attic has quietly redefined what it means to be a true destination for horological connoisseurs.
Established in 2013 by watch aficionado Piano Chow, The Lavish Attic was born to fill a gap in Hong Kong's watch market: a refined, intimate space dedicated to independent watchmakers and unique, artisanal timepieces. Nestled in the historic Central Building, this boutique invites collectors to explore an array of unique brands that are often overshadowed by mainstream luxury names. The Lavish Attic’s concept is simple – it brings together cozy, almost nostalgic interiors with an exceptional selection of brands like Urwerk, H. Moser & Cie, Ressence, and Lang & Heyne.
Chow, who began her journey in wholesale distribution with Urwerk in 2005, has created a space that feels more like a thoughtfully curated home than a storefront. Visitors can explore watches known for boundary-pushing mechanics, intricate craftsmanship, and innovative aesthetics, rather than traditional glitz.
We're proud to showcase a selection of six unique pieces made for The Lavish Attic in the Phillips Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX. Please note that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each of the following lots will be given by the Consignor to the Albert Hausammann Foundation. The foundation provides financial support to eligible students from regions in Asia for the purpose of training or advancing their skills in the art of watchmaking.
Lot 896: A Unique Marc Newson × De Bethune Purple Hourglass
Estimate: In excess of HKD $130,000
Designed by renowned industrial engineer Marc Newson, who has worked with companies from Apple to Ferrari to Nike to Heineken, he is celebrated for his iconic Lockheed Lounge chair and the Apple Watch. He has also ventured into watchmaking by founding lkepod in 1994, with its bold design still legendary in today’s market The present streamlined hourglass possesses a remarkably simple appearance, yet its construction involves a surprisingly sophisticated process.
Crafted from a single piece of glass, the hourglass is skillfully hand-blown in Switzerland by HG Timepiece. The walls of the hourglass are exceptionally thick, measuring between 5 mm and 7mm. Unlike conventional glass, this borosilicate glass is resistant to high temperatures making it a highly durable material. The hourglass is filled with countless microscopic solid metal spheres known as nanoballs. Each nanoball measures only 0.6 mm in diameter, totaling approximately 3 million nanoballs, resulting in this unique De Bethune x HG Timepiece collaboration.
More a sculpture than a mere timekeeper, this unique hourglass features iconic heat-treated purple stainless steel nanoballs, a striking alternative to the usual metal coated nanoballs. This innovative color is derived from De Bethune’s exclusive techniques, similar to those found in their new D828xs Purple Rain. Additionally, this hourglass departs from the typical limited editions that measure 10 or 60 minutes; it records a duration of 20 minutes, in a new glass size.
Lot 897: A Unique Lang & Heyne Moritz No. 53
Estimate: In excess of HKD $250,000
Headquartered in Dresden, Germany, the independent brand Lang & Heyne was founded in 2001 by talented watchmakers Marco Lang and Mirko Heyne. After Heyne departed in the early years, Marco Lang continued to lead the brand until 2019, and the manufacture remains renowned today for its exceptional craftsmanship and distinctive designs. The Moritz was first created in 2005, Numbered 53, the present Moritz made in 2015, was produced under Marco Lang’s leadership and comes with his personally signed certificate and the 2015 hang tags. This piece transcends the typical calendar watch, standing as a remarkable creation in its own right.
At first glance, the colorful enameled sub-dial captures the eye, illustrating a view of Earth from the perspective of Europe and Africa. The watch features a unique complication that reflects the Earth’s relationship with the sun. While the Earth rotates around the sun once per year, it also spins 365 times on its own axis. Due to the Earth’s axial tilt of 23 degrees, the sun’s rays strike at varying angles throughout the year. During the Spring and Fall equinoxes on March 21 and September 21, the Earth’s equatorial line aligns precisely with the center mark of the scale. As we approach the Summer solstice in June, the disc tilts to its extreme left position, aligning the equator with the 23-degree mark, indicating the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Conversely, in December, the disc inclines to the right, reflecting the Southern Hemisphere receiving the sun’s most direct energy.
This intricate mechanism is powered by the manually wound Caliber III, which incorporates unique features and exquisite finishing techniques, based on a movement construction similar to Caliber I. The hand-engraved signature, beautifully crafted balance cock, snailing on the ratchet wheel, and diamond endstone are truly captivating. The watch also includes a stop-seconds function, allowing for precise time setting, while turning the crown in the second position enables forward or backward adjustments of the date, with the Earth’s disc tilting accordingly. The design is exceptionally legible, featuring elegant moon phases at 6 o’clock, while the day aperture is user-friendly, facilitating easy date reading.
Adding to its uniqueness, this watch having been originally created with a silvered dial, boasts a special salmon dial and purple hands, designed for this project celebrating the 11th anniversary of The Lavish Attic. This marks the first time a salmon dial has been produced in the Moritz collection, allowing the owner to switch dials at their pleasure. This presents a unique opportunity to own an exclusive piece from the Marco Lang era, and we are delighted to showcase this monumental collection for the first time in the history of Phillips.
Lot 898: A Unique Konstantin Chaykin Wristmon Panda
Estimate: In excess of HKD $90,000
Konstantin Chaykin’s Wristmon series needs no introduction, but the story of the present Piece Unique watch began in Spring 2023 when Chaykin drew attention to the 60th anniversary of a sports icon, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6239 Panda dial. Famous for its white dial with black registers earning its moniker “Panda” dial, it also made history when Phillips sold Paul Newman’s Daytona ref. 6239 for a world record in 2017.
As a rule in Chaykin’s designs, it is all about manifestations of the theme that interests him in various facets of civilization. Colliding past and the future, myths and archeological facts, traditionalism and the avant-garde, last but not least, West and East, this is the core DNA of his creations. As he started his first sketch for the Panda Wristmon in 2023, another symbolic image of a panda came to mind, the English ecologist and artist Peter Scott had designed for the logo of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 1961 – a couple of years before the Daytona ‘Panda Dial’ was released. The panda – the WWF’s emblem – sparked interest in pandas around the world, and as early as 1963, the Chinese government established the Wolong Nature Reserve, the first successful project to support the panda population.
Sized at 40mm and cased in stainless steel, the Panda Piece Unique features a faceted bezel with its model name “PANDA” encircling its whimsical dial. The upper lugs are equally playful crafted in black carbon fiber in the shape of the animal’s ears. With great attention to details, the white and black areas of the dial are decorated with sandblasting finish. The silver-plated convex nose is vertically brushed to give the design an austere character. The waviness of the panda’s coat is conveyed through a radial wavy guilloché similar to the first Joker watch. With the absence of numbers for the hours and minutes, Chaykin has cleverly used white dots to indicate the indexes. Exhibited through the sapphire caseback is the La Joux-Perret G200 based automatic movement with a power reserve of 68 hours.
A combination of West meets East, horological icon meets nature, the Panda Piece Unique made for the Lavish Attic 11th anniversary is the perfect timepiece created for its Asia debut.
Lot 899: A Unique Le Régulateur Louis Erard × Vianney Halter

Phillips is very honoured to offer the present unique example, an exclusive edition specially crafted for The Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX. While the case design and dial layout of the watch is based on the Louis Erard’s Excellence Régulateur, Vianney Halter’s signature design elements are charismatically displayed in the details. Flipping the watch over, the case back of the present timepiece is uniquely engraved “Limited Edition 1 of 1”, attesting to its exclusivity.
Powered by the automatic calibre Sellita SW266-1, the movement of the timepiece is enhanced with a more premium satin finish, and a unique oscillating weight bearing Vianney Halter’s signature. The present Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Vianney Halter is accompanied by a pair of bespoke cufflinks designed by Vianney Halter, a black Ventile fabric pouch with the message “Live Long and Prosper!” and Vianney Halter’s signature, a special blue grained calf leather, a Louis Erard cloth printed with the image of the Jura Mountains and a certificate of authenticity. Meticulously crafted with unparalleled attention to detail and creativity, the present lot stands out from the classic edition with the special modifications, making it a true collector’s dream.
Lot 900: A Unique Holthinrichs Ornament Nouveau
Estimate: In excess of HKD $170,000
Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, the new Ornament Nouveau collection has been in development at their atelier since 2017. This project culminated in the creation of the first-ever Dutch-made serially produced mechanical watch movement, launched earlier this year. The openworked dial reveals the intricate details of the remarkable cal. HW-M02, featuring stainless steel curvaceous mirrored bridges that are finely finished to create a symmetrical appearance. The variable inertia balance wheel is suspended within a 3D-machined glass bridge known as the Holthinbridge, while the movement is encircled by a grade 5 titanium ring with a curved profile and notched hour markers.
A particularly intriguing feature is the “Eclipse dial”, a unique domed transparent design that transforms to a smoke-black hue under UV light. Throughout the day, the watch’s appearance shifts from a solid black dial to a transparent skeletonized look, depending on the amount of light exposure. This innovative design protects the oils in the skeleton movement from degradation caused by UV light.
As a pioneer in 3D-printing within watchmaking, the movement is housed in a highly sculptural Holthinrichs Watches Ornament Nouveau case forged from grade 5 titanium. A debut for Holthinrichs Watches, this unique collaboration between Michiel Holthinrichs with The Lavish Attic marks the very first iteration of the Ornament Nouveau. Uniquely for this version, the mainplate is laser-engraved to commemorate the collaboration. Additionally, the timepiece will be accompanied by a distinctive sculpture and can be elegantly displayed within the hand-blown glass presentation case.
Lot 901: A Unique Reservoir 'The Panda Edition'
Estimate: In excess of HKD $70,000
A harmonious blend of French craftsmanship and Oriental aesthetics, this timepiece presents a captivating spectacle. It showcases a rare and exquisite miniature painting, illuminated by the ethereal glow of Superluminova. Its integration into a dial featuring both jumping hours and retrograde minutes is a testament to the artist and watchmaker’s exceptional skill and daring innovation, an ingenious challenge to the boundaries of horological artistry.
Renowned artist Philippe Jacquin-Ravot brings charm and vitality to the present piece-unique, “The Panda Edition”. The dial captivates with the artist’s masterful brushwork depicting a hand-painted panda within a lush bamboo forest, while RESERVOIR’s signature retrograde minute arc and jumping hour add technical intrigue. Featuring a unique hand in the shape of a bamboo branch held by the panda that sweeps across a 240° arc, the dial comes to life with each passing minute. Powered by a new in-house cal. RSV-240 with 56 hours of power reserve, collectors will be delighted to know that the panda is painted with Superluminova and will completely light up in the dark. The polished titanium case provides a modern yet understated frame for the panda’s innocent joy.
