Phillips: Synonymous with Innovation

Phillips has long been the name for cutting-edge and innovative offerings. This is true not only of the works we offer, but through our leadership in the auction world via the Phillips App and our innovative Dropshop platform, among much else. This innovative spirit is most apparent when it comes to Phillips’ ability to offer works that collectors are chasing in the moment, often catapulting both emerging and recently rediscovered artists onto the global auction scene in the middle market. It’s this, in short, that defines New Now as a category.

Modernizing the Collecting Experience

New Now combines works from a younger generation of artists with those by established artists, offering a diverse range that engages seasoned collectors and newcomers alike. Now a mainstay of the auction world calendar, Phillips’ New Now sales typically occur mid-season in the autumn and spring. The sales showcase the creativity, depth, and diversity present in the middle market, presenting the very best the category has to offer. What’s more, the excitement in the saleroom never fails to thrill, as New Now auctions continue to shatter auction records and introduce artists to the global stage. Recent world auction debuts at New Now sales have included the artists Kelly Beeman, Pam Evelyn, Gao Hang, February James, Francesca Mollett, Wynnie Mynerva, and more.

Having launched in New York and London in 2015, New Now auctions are now offered across our global locations, with the category recently arriving to our state-of-the-art gallery space and saleroom in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. After a successful launch of New Now in Hong Kong with a cross-category sale alongside Design in November 2023, the sale on 29 March 2024 marked the first standalone New Now auction in Hong Kong.

Phillips’ Trusted Expertise

The exceptional offerings in the category are a testament to the reach and depth of Phillips’ global experts of Modern & Contemporary Art. “The New Now category in particular exemplifies Phillips’ approach,” says Angela Tian, Head of New Now in Hong Kong, adding that the upcoming sale encompasses a wide range of artistry by creators from across the globe. The emergence of New Now in Hong Kong showcases our global presence, with sales in each of our locations routinely drawing bids from more than 50 countries as art lovers take to the Phillips App to experience and embrace the freshest works on the market.
