黑,靈;磅礴,浩瀚,《蘇必利爾湖,瀑布河》引人入勝,水與空氣-兩種極其微小的生命基建物質, 搭建相片。湖面漣漪無邊無際,湖水烏如墨硯,黑夜無月;延綿湖水輕觸天際,形成水平,透出陰柔一線。他利用老式大型照相機,延長曝光時間, 生成平靜海面。時間轉瞬即逝,杉本不受限於片刻之間,將時間延長之永遠;相片本質勝於即時瞬間,一回成功的跨越。
在1980年開始《海景》系列之初,杉本博司一直用簡約的視覺架構語言在世界範圍內拍摄片片水群。視野唯現水與天,框入幀幀相片;似形邊疆大地,卻是冥想瞬間,汲光,天空,水和大氣之精華於相片。不再注意海洋物性本質,將視線集中在賜予生命的水與空氣,杉本試圖喚醒「 某種原始或是無限的永恆,一次孩童般地探索自然,一時間,無法言喻,但卻又知必須。」(Kerry Brougher 著,〈杉本博司:黑白記憶〉,錄於《杉本博司》展覽圖錄,巴塞羅那儲蓄銀行基金會展廳,1998年,第134頁),一回超凡脫俗的體驗。
本拍品完美地體現出他透過相片將真實與「非真實」 嫁接。拍品曾在馬德里,里斯本,倫敦及東京多次參展, 是杉本攝影作品中技術水平相當高的一件作品。
