Good To Know:
- Bi-retrograde perpetual calendar with moon phases
- Made in a limited edition of 28 pieces
- Features a 34mm case
Before establishing his eponymous brand, Roger Dubuis dedicated various years working for well established brands like Longines and Patek Philippe, specializing in their high complications department. This extensive experience profoundly shaped his approach to watchmaking. Collaborating with Marc Wiederrecht, who later founded Agenhor, the duo created a bi-retrograde perpetual calendar movement. This innovative movement was showcased in the Harry Winston Bi-Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, introduced at Baselworld 1989.
The Roger Dubuis Sympathie Perpetual Calendar epitomizes Geneva watchmaking excellence, setting the foundation for avant-garde watchmaking and spearheading the early independent watchmaking movement. Roger Dubuis, the individual, established a brand that embodied his approach to traditional watchmaking, laying the groundwork for subsequent independent brands.
The present Sympathie Perpetual Calendar in 34mm features a black dial and retains an elegant silhouette with a touch of sporty ambiance. Early models like the present example, showcase a glass that follows the gentle curves of the case, whilst visually impressive this was changed at a later stage for round glasses.
The timepiece also proudly bears the Geneva Seal – a significant hallmark that held particular importance for Dubuis, influenced by his tenure at Patek. Quite notably, the master regulator that worked on the certification of this timepiece was Mr. Dubuis himself.
