Good To Know:
- Possibly unique example with a skeletonized dial and engraved bridges
- Movement numbered 1 and 1999
- Iconic three gold bridges framing a one-minute tourbillon carriage
- Accompanied by original certificate and dedicated glass presentation showcase
The Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges stands among the most celebrated achievements in haute horlogerie, originally patented by Constant Girard-Perregaux in 1884 and awarded a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition. By elevating structural movement bridges into central artistic elements, Constant Girard created an enduring architectural icon. A century later, in 1982, Girard-Perregaux revived this historical masterpiece by reconstructing the pocket watch mechanism from archival heritage, requiring nearly 1,500 hours of traditional hand-craftsmanship per piece.
While the manufacture adapted the movement into wristwatch format in 1991, modern executions of the pocket watch version were reserved for ultra-exclusive commissions. The present timepiece is one such exceptional creation. Bearing movement number 1 and 1999, this piece is believed to have been specially created to commemorate the historic handover of Macau in 1999.
Forged in 18K pink gold, the hunter case pocket watch opens to reveal a skeletonized movement plate adorned with three gold bridges framing a one-minute tourbillon carriage. Unlike the smooth-finished 1982 historical replicas, the bridges and mainplate on this movement are intricately hand-engraved, highlighting Girard-Perregaux's decorative mastery. Preserved in overall excellent condition and kept in safe storage over the years, this possibly unique piece is offered complete with its original certificate and dedicated glass presentation showcase—an extraordinary prize for the discerning pocket watch collector.
