The year 1997 was an exciting year both for Cartier and collectors of the maison. A huge celebration for the brand’s 150th anniversary, a spectacular series of limited edition timepieces were launched across all collector’s favourite models. From Tank à Guichet, Pasha to Basculante, you name it, all creations for the celebration features a unique intertwined guilloché motif and features the L♡C 1847-1997 logo to commemorate the collection known as “I love Cartier”.

And of course, the collection cannot be complete without the Mysterieux Modèle A by Maurice Coüet which stunned the world in 1912. Small yet mesmerizing, the 150th anniversary Mysterieux pocket watches were available in three metals: White, yellow and pink gold (all featured within this catalogue).

Each produced in a limited edition of 150 pieces, the present white gold example numbered 150/150 is the last piece to be produced. An exceptional miniature mystery clock enrobed in a white gold guilloché case, the bow of the pocket watch is cleverly designed with a C-shaped logo.

Complete with a rarely seen wooden L♡C anniversary crest presentation box and original certificate, the present Cartier mystery pocket watch captures an intriguing mechanism, with the hands appearing floating within the dial. This illusion is achieved thanks to two transparent discs and its concealed gear, propelling the passage of time.

Cartier

French
With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
