Audemars Piguet further expanded the Royal Oak collection into 35mm with a Joaillerie line that dressed the sporty Royal Oak to an extraordinary jewellery timepiece in 1987 with the ref. 14544. Powered by the self-winding calibre 2131, a quartz variant ref. 56342 was also available with the calibre 2612.
To get a sense of the rarity of these gem-set timepieces, according to the manufacturer, ref. 14544 was available in three materials: yellow gold (1987), white gold (1989) and two-tone yellow gold and steel (1991). Marketed from 1987 to 1992 in a total run of only 102 units, underlining the scarcity of haute joaillerie Royal Oaks of the era in general.
The present ref. 56342BA in yellow gold is encircled with 32 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel, the pavé diamond-set dial is decorated with 10 rubies as hour markers. Extravagantly beautiful, this particular example is very well-preserved. On top of its desirable qualities, this rare timepiece is also accompanied with its original certificate and presentation box, as well as a certificate of gemstone indicating its weight of 0.73carat of brilliant-cut diamonds with IF clarity and Top Wesselton color.
