In 2017, Vacheron Constantin set out to revive their iconic triple calendar wristwatches from the 1940’s, and of course, their inspiration was the ref. 4240. With taste and trends ever-changing in the contemporary world of horology, the firm’s decision was to go back to their roots and recreate one of the most iconic calendar watches of the 20th century by the firm. Introduced at SIHH, the new Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendrier encased only in stainless steel differs from its predecessors with most examples produced in yellow gold. To cater towards the contemporary market, the case was blown up to 40mm in diameter and features teardrop lugs. With tremendous attention to detail, the dial resembles the original from the 1940’s where the typography of the Arabic numerals are retained.
The present Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendrier wristwatch with red calendar track is offered in absolute pristine “like new” condition and further charmed by the full set of accessories. Awarded the Revival Watch Prize at the 2017 GPHG, the present example is a well-executed homage paid towards one of the brands most iconic calendar wristwatches in one of the toughest times for the watch industry after the Great Depression in the late 1930’s.
The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
