The present lot is a gossamer sibling to the very best-know ‘shadow’ works by the artists, physiognomically most like a permanent expression of the idea upon which the fan-blown currency sculpture Made of Money (2002) is based. The razor-thin brass cut-outs depicting carnal scenes flutter and vibrate in the slightest breeze, giving the work a feeling of life while simultaneously emphasizing its inanimate nature, completely belying the stolid medium. Lacking as it does any sort of hidden mechanical intervention to provide the movement, as was the case with Serving Suggestion (2004), Wall of Shame emotes intimacy and care in a way infrequently perceptible with the artists’ works, perhaps referencing more closely the lovingly hand-rendered drawings comprising The Joy of Sex, (2005).
