  • Catalogue Essay

Warren Platner’s designs for the interior of the Ford Foundation were given life and texture with the assistance of Sheila Hicks’ textile designs.  “He wished to collaborate with a creative textile artist whose work could be easily integrated in architecture and rejected all ideas of ‘decoration’.  Of Sheila Platner says: 'I speak and she understands what I am talking about'; she welcomes working within the discipline of architecture.  When the project is executed, neither of us really knows whose idea this or that was!  A rare collaboration'”. (Lévi-Strauss, 1974, p. 26)
