    Photographed by Nadav Kander, this dramatic portrait was used as the leading cover of Chernobyl, an award-winning Sky original TV series exploring the truth behind the Chernobyl disaster. Set around 1986, the historical drama, created by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck, revolves around the catastrophe and the clean-up efforts that followed.

    Nadav Kander (b.1961) is a London-based photographer, artist and director renowned for his portraiture and large-format landscape photographs. Born in Israel, Kander grew up in Johannesburg and moved to London in 1982 to begin his career. His work has received numerous awards, including the Prix Pictet in 2009, World Press Photo awards in 2013 and 2014, an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society in 2015 and the Sony World Photography Award for Outstanding Contribution to Photography in 2019. Kander’s photographs are housed in public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and the Marta Herford Museum in Germany. His work is regularly commissioned by international magazines, such as The New York Times.
