Gilbert & George are two of the most important and influential avant-garde artists in today’s contemporary art world. Fifteen Haunts is a vibrant, large-scale photographic collage work, depicting integrated urban images of street signs, graffiti, and invariably the artists themselves. This piece is part of a series of works entitled; ‘East One Pictures’, which depict the common motifs that exist in the area of London where the artists have been living and working for over thirty-five years. They began working together in 1967 and using themselves as the subject, the artist and the art works became one and the same. Their work explores subjects ranging from city life, religion, scatology, sexuality, contemporary culture and humanity as a whole.
