Crafted by famous enamellist Muriel Séchaud and dated ’97, the cloisonné enamel dial of this remarkable timepiece features Jean-Jacques Audubon’s Shoveller Duck, now known as the Northern Shoveler. Séchaud faithfully captures the intricate detail and natural elegance of Audubon’s illustration, bringing the bird to life through vibrant enamel work.

The Northern Shoveler is easily recognised by its large, shovel-shaped bill, which is not only distinctive in appearance but also highly functional. Along the edges are approximately 110 fine projections that act like a sieve, allowing the duck to filter tiny crustaceans, seeds, and aquatic invertebrates from the water. Northern Shovelers are monogamous and tend to remain paired longer than most other dabbling ducks. They typically form bonds on their wintering grounds and stay together until just before the autumn migration.
