- The ref. 4072 is among the most coveted chronograph models in the Vacheron Constantin collection. In production from 1938, this iconic reference remained in the firm’s catalogue until the early 1970s. Sharing the same standard features, an array of different variants were manufactured under the ref. 4072, featuring different design configurations of case metals, dial displays, pusher styles and the list goes on. According to research, only 1178 pieces are known to the market.
- The present ref. 4072 is a beautifully preserved specimen, boasting a two-toned champagne dial with a well-balanced dual-register chronograph layout. The engine-turned thirty-minute counter and running seconds subdial are contrasted with blued steel hands that complements the chronograph hand. To create a harmonised aesthetic, the applied Arabic numerals and baton indexes are displayed in yellow gold, which further enhances its warm and inviting appeal. Not to mention, the dial is framed by a black tachymeter scale with chronograph seconds on the inner track, bearing the desired typography of a mid-century timepiece that exudes an irresistible vintage flair. Not only complementing the narrow bezel and slender lugs, the thin and elongated print work is also a reflection of Vacheron Constantin’s dedication to delicate details and quality craftsmanship.
- Iconically sized at 35mm, the present example is an elegant timepiece that will no doubt please discerning collectors of fine vintage chronographs.
Vacheron Constantin
Swiss | 1755The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
