Introduced to the market around 1965, the reference 6241 is the acrylic bezel counterpart to the metal bezel reference 6239. Approximately 3,000 examples were produced during its relatively short four-year run until 1969. The non-metal bezel aesthetic has inspired the modern Daytona we see today, featuring durable ceramic bezels. While the reference is available with either black or silvered dials, the black dial examples are rarer compared to their silvered counterparts, which complement the black acrylic bezel nicely.
The present watch showcases an oversized “Daytona” script below the “Cosmograph”, commonly referred to as the “Jumbo”. However, the absolute standout is the striking red central chronograph hand on the dial, which was most likely a personalization made by the retailer after the sale of the watch. This timepiece was initially retailed by the prestigious Joyeria Ricciardi of Buenos Aires and is one of a handful known to exist.
Considered one of the most unusual and intriguing examples ever to appear on the market, the watch reveals its peculiarity when turned over: the number “135370” can be seen behind the bottom right lug. While a connoisseur would immediately suspect this to be a retailer stock number, the situation is unique here where the numbers are boldly stamped in a large font, giving the watch its own distinct identity. Like other distinguished jewelers, Joyeria Ricciardi personalized its watches, including the red chronograph hand, which adds a sporty and striking visual impact.
Fresh to the auction market and well-preserved, the watch is fitted with a seven-link bracelet, enhancing its unique aesthetic and vintage appeal. The significance of this lot cannot be overstated, as it was prominently featured in the Ultimate Rolex Daytona book by Pucci Papaleo.

Rolex
Swiss | 1905Founded in 1905 England by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf & Davis, it soon became known as the Rolex Watch Company in 1915, moving its headquarters to Geneva in 1919. Like no other company, the success of the wristwatch can be attributed to many of Rolex's innovations that made them one of the most respected and well-known of all luxury brands. These innovations include their famous "Oyster" case — the world's first water resistant and dustproof watch case, invented in 1926 — and their "Perpetual" — the first reliable self-winding movement for wristwatches launched in 1933. They would form the foundation for Rolex's Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956, but also importantly for their sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.One of its most famous models is the Cosmograph Daytona. Launched in 1963, these chronographs are without any doubt amongst the most iconic and coveted of all collectible wristwatches. Other key collectible models include their most complicated vintage watches, including references 8171 and 6062 with triple calendar and moon phase, "Jean Claude Killy" triple date chronograph models and the Submariner, including early "big-crown" models and military-issued variants.
