Making its debut in 1980, the Rolex GMT-Master ref. 16750 succeeded the iconic ref. 1675, which had been in production since 1959. While most examples of the reference featured a glossy black dial with white gold indexes, early iterations retained the matte black dial characteristic of the ref. 1675.

Although the general aesthetics were preserved, the ref. 16750 was equipped with the new caliber 3075, operating at 28,800 bph, a significant upgrade from the previous 19,800 bph. Notably, it introduced a practical quick-set date function, and its water resistance was enhanced, doubling its previous depth rating from 50 meters to 100 meters. After a successful eight-year production run, the ref. 16750 was discontinued in 1988 to pave the way for the ref. 16760.

The present Rolex GMT-Master ref. 16750 with a 6.2 million serial number is an early example from circa 1980, featuring a well-preserved matte black dial. The blue part of the outer bezel insert has aged to a fantastic baby blue color, an extremely sought-after hue among the collectors’ community. Furthermore, the luminous material has developed a nice buttery color consistently, adding a lovely touch to the dial.
