In 2000, Rolex introduced the revolutionary Cosmograph Daytona reference 116520, featuring the brand’s first in-house, self-winding chronograph movement caliber 4130. This replaced the previous Zenith El Primero-based caliber 4030. Entering the new millennium with a flourish, Rolex also launched gold variants of the Cosmograph Daytona and, for the first time, models featuring various dial types, including hardstones.
The reference 116509 was introduced in 2004 and remained in production until it was replaced by the current reference 126509. This chronograph features a stunning white gold case and bracelet, complemented by an engraved white gold bezel with a tachymeter scale.
