In 1960, Rolex introduced the ref. 1675 to replace their very first GMT-Master ref. 6542, fitted with various upgrades. The Rolex GMT-Master was first developed collectively with Pan-Am Airways to introduce a wristwatch capable of keeping track of home and local time zones for pilots and jetsetters. The ref. 1675 featured an upgraded metallic bezel insert differing from the previous Bakelite insert, crown guards and an upgraded caliber.

Early examples of the Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 were fitted with glossy black lacquered dials with the introduction of matte dials appearing in 1964. However, with that said, it is believed that the production of glossy black lacquered dials continued until 1966. With various types of glossy dials, the present example belongs to one of the last variations before its transition to matte dials. Bearing a 1.3 million serial range, the present example from circa 1966 is fitted with a glossy dial with the absence of a chapter ring with SWISS – T<25 at 6 O’clock across three minute hashes.

Presented in attractive overall condition boasting a case with thick lugs and an excellent dial with matching luminous material which remain reactive under UV light, the present Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 is certainly a delightful timepiece to acquire and is offered in superb value. An example that will truly captivate the attention of vintage watch lovers.

Rolex

Swiss | 1905
Founded in 1905 England by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf & Davis, it soon became known as the Rolex Watch Company in 1915, moving its headquarters to Geneva in 1919. Like no other company, the success of the wristwatch can be attributed to many of Rolex's innovations that made them one of the most respected and well-known of all luxury brands. These innovations include their famous "Oyster" case — the world's first water resistant and dustproof watch case, invented in 1926 — and their "Perpetual" — the first reliable self-winding movement for wristwatches launched in 1933. They would form the foundation for Rolex's Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956, but also importantly for their sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.One of its most famous models is the Cosmograph Daytona. Launched in 1963, these chronographs are without any doubt amongst the most iconic and coveted of all collectible wristwatches. Other key collectible models include their most complicated vintage watches, including references 8171 and 6062 with triple calendar and moon phase, "Jean Claude Killy" triple date chronograph models and the Submariner, including early "big-crown" models and military-issued variants.
