Superbly iconic and highly sought after, Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” dials are among one of the most well-designed of all times. Introduced towards the end of the 1960’s, the ref. 6262 was released together with its acrylic bezel peer ref. 6264. Considered as a transitional reference, with both models featuring yet pump pushers, they featured an upgraded cal. 727. The production of the reference seized around 1972, making way for two new references with upgraded screw-down pushers, ref. 6263 & 6265. It is estimated that throughout the 9 year production span of references featuring pump pushers, ref. 6239, 6241, 6262 & 6264, only 16,300 examples were produced with approximately 1,120 encased in yellow gold.

Featuring a stunning and well-preserved dial, the present ref. 6262 “Paul Newman” in stainless steel is without a doubt desirable. Bearing a 2.6 million serial from circa 1971, the dial is kept clean with the absence of red ascents on the outer minute track mostly seen in earlier references fitted with “Paul Newman” dials. The present features the covetable “Panda” non-oyster dial, correct for pump pusher references. Extremely attractive, the dial has been preserved in excellent overall condition with a clean surface and uninterrupted luminous plots. To further enhance the originality of this present example, it features the correct Twinlock 600 crown, 271 endlinks with 7835,19 bracelet, which are all correct for the specific reference. Furthermore, the present timepiece was purchased by the original owner during a trip to Hong Kong in the early 1970's.

Rolex

Swiss | 1905
Founded in 1905 England by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf & Davis, it soon became known as the Rolex Watch Company in 1915, moving its headquarters to Geneva in 1919. Like no other company, the success of the wristwatch can be attributed to many of Rolex's innovations that made them one of the most respected and well-known of all luxury brands. These innovations include their famous "Oyster" case — the world's first water resistant and dustproof watch case, invented in 1926 — and their "Perpetual" — the first reliable self-winding movement for wristwatches launched in 1933. They would form the foundation for Rolex's Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956, but also importantly for their sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.One of its most famous models is the Cosmograph Daytona. Launched in 1963, these chronographs are without any doubt amongst the most iconic and coveted of all collectible wristwatches. Other key collectible models include their most complicated vintage watches, including references 8171 and 6062 with triple calendar and moon phase, "Jean Claude Killy" triple date chronograph models and the Submariner, including early "big-crown" models and military-issued variants.
