- Roger Dubuis created his eponymous brand at a time where “going independent” wasn’t something watchmakers usually did.
- Dubuis started his career in the late 1950s in the after-sales department of Longines. Repairing the iconic 13ZN chronograph caliber was an eye opener for him into the wonderful world of chronographs. He left Patek Philippe after 14 years and set up his own repair atelier in Geneva in 1980, even creating movements for other brands. However, it was not until the mid-1990s that he created his own brand.
- According to Roger Dubuis, La Monégasque is inspired by the famous Monte Carlo resort in Monaco. The influence is apparent in the roulette-table-esque design of the dial, with applied Arabic numerals on black divisions around an angular, concave base. Its bold, graphic layout is striking from both afar and up close, thanks to its high level of finishing.
- Inside, La Monégasque is made alive thanks to its automatic caliber RD78. Boasting not one but two chronometer certificates, the caliber is sure to showcase the Manufacture's penchant for technical movement development and finishing. Visible through the open sapphire crystal caseback, the caliber RD78 is one of those movements that reminds you visually of the complexity of watchmaking.
