The horological term "Chronoscope" is derived from Greek, with "chronos" meaning time and "scope" referring to a sector or range, and denotes the mechanism combining jumping hours and wandering minutes indication. The “Chronoscope” watch was particularly popular in the mid-1920s during the Art Deco period, as its simple time display is a perfect match for bold geometric case shapes and rich decorative styles.

The present specimen finely epitomizes the iconic Art Deco style. The openface keyless lever chronoscope pocket watch is distinguished by the exceedingly rare combination of a two-tone white gold and yellow gold square case, with a “Chronoscope” system of jumping hours and wandering minutes patented by the Swiss watchmaker Robert Cart under Swiss patent number 130191 in around 1925. The patent number is engraved on the dial of the present timepiece. Characterised by its classical simplicity and elegance, the dial of this pocket watch further features a beautifully engine-turned centre with a sunburst pattern, revolved by a triangular tipped ruby minute indicator and a digital hour aperture below chapter 60.

Preserved in attractive condition considering its age, the present pocket watch exudes timeless Art Deco elegance, and is an enchanting timepiece not to be missed by our tasteful collectors.
