Launched in 1937, the reference CK 2077 is Omega’s first water-resistant chronograph wristwatch with screw back and round chronograph pushers. The watch is fitted with the celebrated manual calibre 33.3 CHRO, created by Lémania in 1933. It was originally designed for single-button chronographs, but the present version for two pushers was introduced in 1938.

Featured in the Omega Sportswatches by John Goldberger, the present watch is preserved in irresistible condition. This early Omega chronograph reference CK 2077 example from 1938 is distinguished by its mesmerizing two-tone tropical dial that is marked by an even discoloration from the original matte dark grey to a charming chocolate brown, which shimmers with a golden caramel hue under different lighting, beautifully echoing the black outer track with 1/5 seconds division and tachymeter scale. The dial is further complemented with subdials engraved with intricate concentric circular grooves, and distinctive white hands. Considered oversized back in the day, the 38.5mm stainless steel case of the present watch is equally well-preserved in honest condition with strong proportions and sharp edges to the downturned lugs and stepped bezel. The crisp engravings of “E. Golding, BMW, 716” remain legible on the case back.

Accompanied with an Omega travel pouch, and a copy of Omega Sportswatches by John Goldberger, this superb specimen is without a doubt a dream watch for the serious collectors and aficionados of vintage sports watches.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
