The history of the Omega Speedmaster is closely intertwined with some of the greatest spacefaring achievements of mankind. It was the not only the first watch to be flight-qualified by NASA, but also the first timepiece to be worn by an American astronaut during a spacewalk. But perhaps most importantly, it was the first watch when the first men set foot on the moon, during which Buzz Aldrin had Speedmasters strapped on their wrists.

The present Speedmaster is a rare reference made in 1969 — the year of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission. Lavishly encased in 18K yellow gold to commemorate the significant accomplishment, it was one of the earliest special edition Speedmasters. Only 1014 of pieces were created. While number one and number two were presented to the President and Vice President of the United States, numbers 3 to 32 were given to astronauts and various personalities. The remaining examples were publicly sold. The present watch is one among this historical line of commemorative timepieces. Those sold publicly bore the inscription "The First Watch Worn on the Moon" along with the limited edition number.

Preserved in excellent condition with its original bracelet, the watch is accompanied with an Extract confirming its date of production, delivery, and that it was a special numbered edition to celebrate the “Apollo XI” moon landing.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
