Oleg Dou’s foray into photography began by chance in 2006, when the computer programmer exaggerated the tonality while digitally editing a friend’s portrait and created an image that was hauntingly surreal. Since then, the Russian photographer has been manipulating his images to present his subjects as hovering between polished fantasy
and sentimental reality; hybrid-creations that seem apt in a digitally-driven world. The portraits become symbols of their era, which at times empowers the imagined and filtered world over its realistic counterpart.
Dou’s work has been exhibited in Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Los Angeles and Seoul. In 2007, his work was included in the Kandinsky Prize exhibition at the Central House of Artists, Moscow.
