- IWC has a long history of producing high quality pilot’s watch, and this meca-quartz chronograph wristwatch is no exception.
- In 1988, IWC released the aviator chronograph wristwatch IW3470, housing the innovative meca-quartz movement from Jaeger-LeCoultre. It was then succeeded by IW3471 in 1992.
- The present watch shows the typical layout of an IWC pilot’s watch, with a matte black dial, white numerals, sub-dials, and of course, the signature big white triangular marker at the 12 o’clock position.
- Stainless steel IWC pilot’s watches are seen quite often, yet, this present watch features a 18K yellow gold case, which gives a solid feel and luxurious touch to this tool watch. It is 36mm in diameter, similar to the legendary IWC Mark XI pilot’s watch.
- The heavy 18K gold case houses the JLC cal. 631, which is a refined cal. 630 and the second meca-quart movement by Jaeger LeCoultre. With the timekeeping function operated by the quartz part and chronograph function being mechanical, it keeps time accurately, and at the same time shares the mechanical feel to the watch. It is also one of the thinnest chronograph movement at that time. It is a tool watch that is comfortable to wear with functionality and class.
