- The importance of the DaVinci perpetual calendar chronograph launched in 1985 cannot be highlighted enough. the brainchild of watchmaker extraordinaire Kurt Klaus under the aegis of Guinther Blümelin, the Da Vinci was the first perpetual calendar where all indications could be set via the crown. It was also the first perpetual calendar to indicate the year in full.
- In 1995 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the watch, IWC introduced an even more complicated version with a split seconds chronograph. The split seconds mechanism was designed by Richard Habring.
- The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Split Seconds Chronograph features no less than 10 hands but remains incredibly legible and easy to use. The sky in the moon phases display is made of lapis lazuli providing for extra elegance.
- The present example is offered with its full set of accessories including the replacement century slide (for the year indication) for millenniums 22, 23 and 24.
- The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Split Seconds Chronograph was launched in a limited edition of 500 pieces of which the present example is number 472.
