Re-established in 2005 and acquired by the Meylan family in 2012, H. Moser & Cie encompasses the traditional Swiss culture of watchmaking. Having set based in watchmaking hub Schaffhausen, Switzerland, the manufacturer produces all their calibers in-house with an estimated production of 1,500 watches per year. Having already won the complicated watch prize at the 2006 Grand Prix D’Horlogerie De Genève (GPHG) via the Perpetual 1, H. Moser & Cie was formally back in business to compete amongst the uprising talents in the field of independents.
In 2017, H. Moser & Cie once again made a statement to the world of horology by introducing the piece unique Swiss Mad Cheese watch. Believed to be 100% Swiss made, the case is made out of Vacherin Mont d’Or Swiss cheese derived from the same village as the Meylan family with a resin mixture to create a composite. As a form of protest to new industry regulations to determine the term “Swiss Made”, H. Moser & Cie announced in 2017 that they would remove “Swiss Made” off the dials of their watches. Regulation suggests that only timepieces with over 60% of their components made in Switzerland can bare the term “Swiss Made”.
Following the feat, launched together was the Venturer Swiss Mad watch encompassing a similar concept as the cheese watch. Limited to 50 pieces and encased in white gold, the red fume dial with white baton numerals on 3,6,9 & 12 O’clock symbolizes the Swiss national flag. Furthermore, fitted in between the lugs are a pair of cow hide straps, presumably from a Swiss cow. With all elements combined and powered by the in-house caliber HMC 327, it is without a doubt the closest 100% Swiss made wristwatch with an exception of the material of the white gold case, as there are no gold mines in Switzerland.
The present example H. Moser & Cie Venturer Swiss Mad watch is preserved in excellent “like new” overall condition and accompanied by the full set of accessories is an exhilarating wristwatch filled with a positive motive to retain the traditional culture of Swiss watchmaking.
