The 1845 Meissen “Last Edition” is a limited edition model which 50 pieces were made of stainless steel and another 50 pieces of 18K pink gold.
The present stainless steel example features a finely crafted porcelain dial produced by Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, a renowned porcelain manufacturer in Germany. The present dial, depicting a blue lion crouching next to a flower, is finely hand-painted by highly skilled craftsman. The Glashütte Original signature, Meissen’s crossed swords logo and numerals were also applied by hands of an expert in typography with the finest brushes. The traditional Meissen lion is a figure originating from Eastern Indian painting. Two layers of ceramic colours were painted to achieve the necessary depth of colour.
This lion design has a long tradition in Meissen’s, which this motif was already being painted on its Japanese models in 1720s. It has been wrongly attributed as a tiger ever since. Either lion or tiger, the creature represents authority, courage and wildness.
Produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces only, this present example is manufactured with keen attention to detail and to the strictest quality standards.
