- A collaboration of Chopard and Yamada Heiando Studio to showcase Japanese Urushi to the world
- Supervised by Japanese “Living National Treasure’ Kiichiro Masumura
- Comes with full set of accessories including a lacquered wooden box with the interior layered with gold leaf
- In 2009, Chopard and Yamada Heiando Studio collaborated and released the first Urushi Collection with the objective of showcasing the traditional art of Urushi (Japanese lacquering) and Maki-e (painting with metal powder on lacquered materials). The Blue Horn Dragon features an Urushi dial handpainted by master artisan from the renowned Yamada Heiando Studio, one of the tableware suppliers to Japan’s Imperial Household Agency, and supervised by Japanese ‘Living National Treasure’ Urushi artist Kiichiro Masumura. On the shiny black lacquer, the dragon is carefully painted with fine gold powder using Maki-e techniques, and decorated with bright blue horns cut from mother-of-pearl.
-Part of the collection of the five mythical creatures from ancient Asian philosophy, the dragon, phoenix, kylin, tiger, and genbu, this timepiece is an art piece merging traditional Swiss watchmaking and Japanese historic Urushi and Maki-e art. Accompanied with an Urushi wooden box with its interior decorated with Kinpaku art (layered with gold leaf), this set is definitely a collectable item that no Japanese enthusiast would want to miss.
Chopard
Swiss | 1860At the age of 24, Louis-Ulysse Chopard started his company L.U.C. Chopard in Sonviller, Switzerland. Since the brand's inception in 1860, Chopard understood the need for thin and accurate pocket watches to be functional for daily wear. The brand gained world recognition in 1912 after Tsar Nicolas II became a client.
Following Louis-Ulysse's death in 1915, his sons Paul-Louis and Paul André took over the business and moved their headquarters to La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1963, the company was taken over by Karl Scheufele, who remains the brand's owner. Arguably Chopard's most recognizable design, the "Happy" line, was inspired by Scheufele's daughter Caroline. In 1996, his son Karl-Friedrich established Chopard as a manufacturer of its own range of in-house movements under the name L.U.C., creating groundbreaking, exquisitely finished watches that have earned the brand worldwide acclaim.
