Released by Breitling in 1962, the Navitimer Cosmonaute has been one of the most legendary watch models of the twentieth century. In the same year, American astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth in the Aurora 7 spacecraft with a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute ref. 809 on his wrist – making it one of the very first chronograph wristwatch models to be worn in space.
The present piece belongs to the fourth generation of the ref. 809 model. The case is preserved in great condition, if not unpolished, and the luminous materials have taken on a beautiful cream-colored patina.
