Good To Know:
- Sized at 34mm diameter and cased in white gold
- Proprietary asymmetrical movement cal. 215
- Hand sculpted small seconds on stone
- Only 48 pieces are created each year.
The Mirage is the singular vision of Sylvain Berneron, the French designer and former Chief Product Officer of Breitling. At its heart lies a radical yet elegant principle: the movement must dictate the form of the case, never the reverse.
Unveiled in 2024, the Mirage swiftly emerged as one of the most compelling independent debuts of the year. This white-gold Mirage 34 with lapis lazuli dial belongs to the inaugural natural-stone series. Berneron selects only the finest Afghan lapis and subjects every dial to exacting manual inspection, ensuring it meets his uncompromising aesthetic standard. The material is unforgiving with production failure rates of 60 percent, yet the result is extraordinary. The small seconds counter is sculpted by hand directly into the stone itself, leaving a residual thickness of just 0.4 mm in that delicate zone: a monobloc feat rarely, if ever, attempted at this level.
Within beats the proprietary ultra-thin hand-wound Calibre 215, measuring a mere 2.15mm in height. True to the Mirage philosophy, its asymmetrical architecture accommodates a generous barrel delivering a full 72-hour power reserve, a direct-drive small seconds, and a large pocket-watch-inspired balance. The mainplate and bridges are fashioned entirely from solid 18k gold and finished with classical techniques: grené, guilloché, anglage, cerclage, and black-polished screws.
The case itself continues to obey rigorous Fibonacci geometry rather than mere decorative suggestion, yielding an organic silhouette that remains mathematically precise.
