The second-generation Zeitwerk debuted in two configurations: the ref. 142.025 in a platinum case with a rhodium dial, and the ref. 142.031 in pink gold with a black dial (see next lot). While neither is a limited edition, both are boutique exclusives, in keeping with Lange’s tradition of discreet distribution.

One of the most impressive updates is the reduction in case thickness—from 12.6mm to 12.2mm—despite the addition of a quick-set hour pusher and a doubled power reserve. This subtle refinement significantly enhances wearability. At the heart of the new Zeitwerk is the manual-wind calibre L043.6, which builds on the original’s dual-jumping digital time display and constant-force mechanism. The redesigned barrel now houses two mainsprings, extending the power reserve from 36 to 72 hours. The new pusher at 4 o’clock allows for rapid hour adjustment, a practical feature for frequent travellers.

Visually, the Zeitwerk retains its iconic layout: twin digital apertures for hours and minutes, a small seconds at 6 o’clock, and a sweeping power reserve indicator at the top. Minor dial refinements include a slightly enlarged seconds subdial and the repositioning of the “Made in Germany” inscription. The final 12 hours of the power reserve are now marked in red for added clarity. With 451 components—63 more than its predecessor—the L043.6 movement reflects Lange’s commitment to mechanical innovation and precision.

The present timepiece represents the very first example of ref. 142.025 to appear at auction. Offered in immaculate “like-new” condition and entirely unworn.

German | 1845
Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
