In 2019, A. Lange & Söhne marked a significant milestone with the release of the Odysseus, the brand’s first foray into the luxury sports watch category. This groundbreaking timepiece offered a fresh perspective, departing from Lange’s traditional designs while retaining the brand’s signature DNA. Featuring an outsized day and date display, the Odysseus introduced a completely new case design that set it apart from other sports watches on the market. Unlike the stainless steel, water-resistant designs popularized by Gérald Genta, the Odysseus presented a distinctive aesthetic that sparked polarizing reactions among collectors upon its debut, quickly cementing its status as a modern icon.
At the heart of the Odysseus beats the caliber L155.1 Datomatic, a movement that exemplifies A. Lange & Söhne’s commitment to precision and craftsmanship. The movement boasts impeccable finishes, including an engraved balance cock adorned with a stylized wave pattern—a subtle nod to the watch’s sporty character—replacing the traditional floral decoration seen in other Lange models. This attention to detail, combined with the movement’s technical sophistication, underscores the brand’s dedication to horological excellence.
The present example, featuring the iconic blue dial, is in new-old-stock condition and comes complete with its guarantee and original presentation box.

German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
