Minute repeating timepieces are one of the most charming and elegant complications a watch can feature. Regarded as masters of minute repeating timepieces, Patek Philippe repeating perpetual calendar timepieces were introduced over a century ago in pocket watches. One of the hardest complications to execute to the highest level, the chime is activated via a slider on the case band allowing two hammers to strike against a gong rimming the circumference of the inner case.
In 1992, Patek Philippe introduced the ref. 5013 featuring a tonneau-shaped case with a minute repeating perpetual calendar complication. At the time of its launch the ref. 5013 was the most complicated timepiece in the Patek Philippe catalogue with a movement consisting of 515 individual parts constructed and designed especially for the reference. Encasing the self-winding movement is a beautiful 37mm tonneau-shaped case. Cases from early examples of the reference were made by renowned master case maker Jean-Pierre Hagmann. Throughout its production span from 1992 – 2010, it is estimated that 101 calibres were produced for the reference with 30 examples in yellow gold, 20 examples in pink gold, 6 examples in white gold and 45 examples in platinum. With a long production span and with only 101 examples believed to be produced across all four materials, the ref. 5013 is certainly a highly complicated timepiece to manufacture and is most certainly rare.

It is further accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming its date of manufacture in 2000 encased in 18K pink gold, opaline dial and applied pink gold Breguet numerals and its subsequent date of sale on 26th February 2003.
