Originally launched in 1980 by Carlo Crocco, Hublot takes its name and design from the portholes found in vintage ships. It broke away from the designs of the era by introducing watches in precious metals and rubber - a design ethos that Jean-Claude Biver codified when he took the helm of the brand in 2004.

The Big Bang, introduced in 2005 in Basel, can be considered to be one of the most valuable commercial successes of the 21st century. Its iconic design, mix of innovative materials, simplicity and industrial looks have captivated the hearts of many collectors worldwide.

Originally donated directly by Mr. Biver for a charity auction raising funds for cancer research (confirmed by a letter signed by J.C. Biver) the present Big Bang in steel and ceramic is one of the earliest prototypes of the Big Bang chronograph that was presented to press, retailers and collectors at the Basel watch fair in 2005. Engraved Bale 05, as in Basel 2005, the case bares number 301’101. It is believed that the very first prototype of this watch, which would have case number 301’100 remains in the private collection of Mr. Biver.

A true piece of horological history, the watch is a testimony of the great success and inspiration that the Big Bang collection would later have throughout the years.

    Hublot

    Swiss • 1980

Hublot was founded by Carlo Crocco in 1980 and named after the French word for "porthole," which resembles their iconic bezel design. Hublot's first watch followed three years of research and was the first wristwatch to be fitted with a natural rubber strap. The brand's most recognizable watch today is the 'Big Bang', which was first launched in 2005 upon the arrival of CEO and shareholder Jean-Claude Biver. Other noteworthy models are the 'Classic Fusion' and 'King Power'.
