From the edition of 100, published in the album Germinal by Julius Meier-Graefe, framed.
An aerial view of a small garden where the light green plants of springtime are prisoners of gray buildings. Somewhere in Paris, in an artists’ quarter. Claude Roger-Marx

It was not Vollard but the German scholar and editor Meier-Graefe who commissioned Vuillard’s most ambitious lithograph. In 1901 Meier-Graefe published Germinal, an imposing album of large-scale prints and reproductions. One of the stellar contributions was Vuillard’s The Garden Outside the Studio, more than two by one and one-half feet, printed in eight colors. William S. Lieberman, Edouard Vuillard, The Museum of Modern Art, New York and The Cleveland Museum of Art, 1954, p. 93
