MING 17.06

MING, 「MING 17.06」型號,精細,精鋼自動腕錶,備古銅色璣鏤錶盤,約2019年製。附原裝證書、錶盒

- Taking modern horology to new heights, MING was first launched in 2017 and has captured the hearts of collectors ever since. Making only a handful of watches in small series, each model is sold out upon minutes of being released. The brand takes the name of one of its founders and key drivers: Ming Thein, a physicist by trade and a world-renowned photographer by virtue. As a seasoned watch collector, he created his own brand in order to create impeccably made and well-designed timepieces with competitive prices.

- In 2019, the MING 17.06 Copper was awarded the Horological Revelation prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. Housed in a 38mm case with brushed and polished surfaces, the superb architecture of the dial is perfectly highlighted, with emphasis on the central guilloché pattern and outer polished surface. Suspended above the dial is a sapphire ring of which the luminous hour markers appear to be floating mid-air. Its polished hands are set close to the dial for minimal parallax, with just 0.3mm clearance to the crystal underside. Both dial and hands are loaded with Super-LumiNova C1 for a distinctive nocturnal signature.

- Barely worn and offered with its original accessories, the present wristwatch will be an excellent addition for collectors of quirky, beautifully designed pieces from young and promising brands.

Ming Thein is the vision behind MING: he has a diverse background that bridges both the creative and corporate, with more than 10 years in strategy and finance and 20 years as a photographer, with seven as a full time professional. Ming was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1986, educated in Australia, New Zealand, and finally graduated with a masters’ degree in theoretical physics from Balliol College, Oxford at the age of 16.

Somewhere during the mechanical portions of his degree, he contracted the watch bug made worse by a Lange 1815 graduation gift from his parents. It would follow through his early career at KPMG and The Boston Consulting Group, where the generosity of online collector communities allowed him access to their events and watches. His contributions to the community were driven by knowledge (including numerous attempts at movement design) and photography: capturing a personal interpretation of a watch, Ming in a way made them his own and shared a different vision with the collector’s community
