The present lot is a rare oval-shaped pocket alarm watch characterised by a remarkable enamel miniature painting on the case back, depicting the portrait of a young gentleman reading.

The yellow gold case of the timepiece is lavishly embellished with a bezel set with fifty-six half pearls, perfectly matching the engraved bow, and the golden dial engraved with floral pattern on the outer rim.

Displaying an interplay of artistic ingenuity and function, the present pocket watch houses the manual calibre K910 within its extravagantly ornated case. Introduced in 1950, the Memovox boasts a highly practical alarm function, and it quickly became one of the most desirable and reliable alarm watches on the market.

Offered in excellent overall condition, and accompanied by its full set of accessories including the original Jaeger-LeCoultre international guarantee dated 1978 and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Extract from the Archives confirming the production of the timepiece in 1972. The guarantee is stamped Sanpongi Watches from Hokkaido’s Sapporo Plaza Tokyu Department Store, with a watch salon on the fifth floor which still stands today selling timepieces from major brands and providing watch repair service almost half a century later. Pleasantly conjuring fond memories of the past, this is a wonderful opportunity for collectors of fine enamelled pocket watches to acquire a splendid work of art.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Swiss | 1833
Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.

In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
