Unveiled in 1999, the Datograph quickly established A. Lange & Söhne as one of the pre‑eminent makers of chronograph wristwatches, its movement and design hailed as among the finest of the modern era. Building upon this success, the maison expanded the line in 2006 with the introduction of the Datograph Perpetual in platinum, presented at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). Produced for only five years, until 2011, the model has since become a coveted reference, admired for both its technical mastery and enduring design.
The watch combines a solid rhodium‑silver dial and 41 mm platinum case, producing a refined monochromatic aesthetic. Subtle accents—a hint of blue within the day/night indicator and moon‑phase aperture—echo the blued steel hands in the subdials, lending quiet vibrancy to the otherwise restrained palette. A hallmark of the Datograph Perpetual lies in this juxtaposition: the delicacy of its dial balanced against the unmistakable gravitas of its case.
The present example belongs to the first generation, distinguished by its II, VI, and X Roman numerals, a feature later replaced by baton markers in rose and white‑gold successors. Preserved in “like-new” condition and offered with its complete set of accessories, it stands as both a flagship of the manufacture and a rare opportunity for the discerning collector. With production limited and examples seldom appearing publicly, the Datograph Perpetual underscores A. Lange & Söhne’s enduring commitment to traditional Saxon watchmaking—a legacy that now spans more than 175 years.

German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
