Phillips is pleased to offer Property from the Miles and Shirley Fiterman Collection across our salerooms in New York, London and Hong Kong in 2019. Inspired by their passionate and sustained engagement with modern and contemporary art, the Fitermans developed their remarkable collection throughout their lives in Minnesota, Palm Beach and New York.
One of the most seminal groups of Pop Art to be collected in the United States, the Miles and Shirley Fiterman Collection includes significant works by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and David Hockney as well as pieces by 20th century masters Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell and Joan Miró.
Many of the 95 works on offer were exhibited throughout the 1970s and 1980s at the Midwestern institutions of which the Fitermans served as patrons, including the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, as well as at the Norton Gallery School of Art in West Palm Beach. However, many of the works from the collection have not been on view publicly since their acquisition.
