Brooklyn-based painter, José Parlá collaborated with Converse to create awareness and raise money for The Global Funds fight against AIDS in Africa. The upper of the All Star features a section of Parlá’s abstract painting, Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics. Although Parlá’s art is typically large scale, its evocation of the chaos and rush of the urban landscape and layered histories seems fitting for a pair of All Stars, a model that first debuted in 1917. This pair belongs to sneaker-culture legend, author, filmmaker, NPR podcast host, and DJ, Bobbito García. It is currently one of his favorite pairs and is only off his feet for the duration of this exhibition.
