The Cité International Universitaire de Paris is a private park and foundation in Paris.  Since 1925 it has provided general and public services, including the maintenance of several dozen residences for students and visiting academics in the Île-de-France region, each named for different countries, the Maison du Brésil being one designed by Le Corbusier. It is officially recognized as a foundation of public utility in France.  The residences are organized by nationality, though the residents are not necessarily from the country named on the building.

In 1959, Le Corbusier hired Charlotte Perriand to create the interior of the Maison du Brésil de la Cite Internationale Universitaire. Perriand’s role involved equipping the student residence with multi-purpose furniture. For example, a bed could function as a chair and a cupboard could simultaneously serve as a wardrobe or divider. The project, which lasted several years, marked the final collaboration between Perriand and Le Corbusier.
