Operated by The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, Phillips Café Will Officially Open Its doors on March 18, Celebrating the First Year Anniversary of Phillips’ Asia Headquarters

HONG KONG – 18 MARCH 2024 – Phillips is delighted to unveil Phillips Café, the latest addition to its spectacular Asia headquarters in the WKCDA Tower in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. Located on the second floor, the first-ever Phillips Café is operated by The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, offering elevated Western and Asian menu options for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea, in addition to fabulous coffees and beverages. Designed by Hong Kong’s award-winning studio LAAB Architects, its minimal styling interior incorporates floor-to-ceiling windows bathing the space with ample natural light, creating an inviting ambience and the ability to track live auction progress streaming on screens in the café. And adding to the charm is that visitors can appreciate the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building’s incredible architecture, featuring textured fair-faced concrete with a balcony overlooking the stylish M+. With the launch of Phillips Café, Phillips is now not only the first international auction house to establish a purpose-built saleroom, exhibition space, and retail boutique in Hong Kong, but also the first auction house to debut a café.

Gold Waterfall

Phillips Café offers an array of light meals and refreshments such as French butter croissant, smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, classic Caesar salad, and heartier dishes ranging from roasted chicken leg with broccoli and mashed potato to 12 hours braised short rib and braised Chinese e-fu noodles. On the drinks menu are classic brews like latte, flat white, americano, and espresso; along with a selection of other non-coffee items including teas, soft drinks, and smoothies. For those preferring plant-based options, vegetarian options are available. In addition, the café will feature specialty items from time to time themed around Phillips’ sales and exhibitions on view in the galleries. For the opening period in March coinciding with Hong Kong’s Art Week, a chocolate and passion cake, Gold Waterfall will be available, and is inspired by the renowned art collective teamLab’s Universe of Water Particles – Gold, a digital work presented in Phillips’ upcoming New Now auction.

In 2023, Phillips launched its new Asia headquarters spanning over 52,000 square feet in the WKCDA Tower designed by Herzog & de Meuron and immediately opposite to the world-class museum M+, which is also designed by the same architect. The interiors of the space are designed by LAAB Architects and embrace openness, flexibility, and an innovative spirit, featuring an auction room, exhibition galleries across a total of three floors, offices, allowing for year-round events and auctions. The saleroom and the galleries featuring transparent glass façades, embracing the subtlety of architecture to enhance the visibility of the artwork on display.
